Masking Tape Shoes

Flat, Flat

ARTIST STATEMENT:

"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"
There is just as much art that goes into the creation of a shoe, as there is in the creation of a Pollock or a Picasso. It requires intention, materials, motivation, and of course—talent. For this first assignment the rules were simple, execution not so much. It sounds easy to make a replica of a pair of shoes using masking tape. But actually making the replica is something else. Looking, touching, moving my hand over every crevice, every groove. The process was a tug of war between seeing and feeling. I found myself in the ongoing distress of visually representing something in a realistic format.
